What is Math Zoom? Math Zoom Academy is an educational organization that develops and provides rigorous, yet fun and exciting, training programs for mathematically gifted students. Background: As we all know, mathematics is the foundation for the majority of the advanced study fields. The study of mathematics helps develop analytical and critical thinking skills. Our current education system in the United States has minimal resources to keep mathematically gifted students challenged and engaged, resulting in limited development of the students' math talents. The good news is that there are challenging programs and major math competitions available. Because of these limited resources in the current K-12 school systems, most students are not exposed to these opportunities. Math competitions are proven ways to engage students' interests in mathematics and motivate students to study hard and learn more. Extensive math contest training can improve students' performances in many prestigious math competitions, gaining a better chance to win scholarships for college and considerable recognition in the college application process. Top technology colleges such as MIT and Cal Tech list AMC and AIME records in parallel with AP (Advanced Placement) course records.
The Opportunity: For students who do not have extracurricular math training, math competitions are difficult and challenging. When first exposed to the math contest materials, some students realize that they have some catch-up to do, so they start to participate in the training. The training turns out to be an eye opening experience. It guides the students through the door to a fascinating math world. After learning all the methods they never learned before, the clueless problems become easy to solve. As training continues, the brain becomes sharper. All the school work becomes easier. The clueless chaotic world becomes logical and easier to understand. When facing the same challenge, however, some other students are intimidated and walk away. Later on these students will realize the bigger challenge is yet to come. They either have difficulty getting into their dream colleges, or they will become overwhelmed when they begin classes at the top colleges. Advanced study at these colleges requires deeper levels of problem solving and analytical skills than they were prepared for at high school.
